Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force Learns About New Research

Could taking medications for HIV/AIDS be a thing of the past?

According to an article in The Huffington Post, Stanford Researchers have made a breakthrough in HIV/AIDS treatment. Doctors and researchers who have adopted HIV/AIDS study as their life work have created a HIV resistant T-cell in laboratories. This T-Cell was created in hopes that by inserting the T-cells into a patient who has HIV, the patient will then become immune to the disease and stop the virus before an individual develops AIDS. If this is true, it also means that HIV patients will no longer have to take lifelong medications to protect them from the deadly virus.

This is great news to hear at the Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force. Through its clients, the Task Force experiences first hand what is like to struggle and live with the many side effects of drug treatments. Although advances in treatment allow for much simpler drug regimens, many of the Task Force’s clients have expressed the stress that comes with having to take a plethora of pills, every day for the rest of one’s life.

Please watch the video below of a client testifying to this statement. She explains what it is like to be part of these kinds of drug treatments, in the early years of HIV/AIDS treatment.

Beth’s story and other stories that we have heard from the HIV/AIDS population is the reason why  the Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force provide supportive services that help cope with the struggles of living with HIV/AIDS.
