Ann Kuster Visits Harbor Homes’ Veterans FIRST Program

On 02/06/2013

Congresswoman Ann Kuster recently toured Harbor Homes’ Veterans FIRST Dalianis House and visited with the veterans that reside in the home. Alongside Michelle Cool, program manager of Dalianis House and Buckingham Place in Nashua, Congresswoman Kuster learned more about the housing facilities and the services that are provided for homeless veterans in New Hampshire.

The Congresswoman’s visit to Dalianis house included a tour of the 40-unit residential space at Dalianis House. She also sat down and spoke with some of the veterans who live there. The veterans discussed what it is like to be a homeless veteran in the Nashua community and what it is like to find help and then be able to give back to the community. Many of the veterans are now volunteering or working in the community, helping others end their battle with homelessness, obtain employment, and move onto independence.

The Harbor Homes’ Veterans FIRST program gives homeless veterans and their families access to emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing, employment skills, supportive services, case management, and transportation. Since 2005, more than 285 veteran households have graduated from a Veterans FIRST housing program and now live independently in our community.
