Harbor Homes and Keystone Hall Receive Highest Honor
POSTED ON May 14th BY dcollins
In 2015, Harbor Homes and Keystone Hall, both agencies of the Partnership for Successful Living, received the highest honor that a service organization can receive!  Both our Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP) and our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program at Harbor Homes, and all of our residential and outpatient treatment services of Keystone Hall, were awarded a Three-Year CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) Accreditation. What does this mean?  This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization. Since both Harbor Homes and Keystone Hall have received this distinctive status, it means that both agencies have put themselves through a rigorous peer review process. They have demonstrated to a team of surveyors, during on-site visits, their commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality. This accreditation is a public statement MORE >

Substance Use Disorder Numbers Are Climbing
POSTED ON May 14th BY dcollins
It is no surprise that heroin and other opioid use is at epidemic proportions all over the nation. Far too many young people have lost their lives due to fentanyl-tainted heroin, as well as other illicit drugs, many of which are synthetic, further complicating the problem.    Sadly, per capita, New Hampshire has the highest rate of substance use disorder in the entire country, and is the second lowest state with the availability to provide treatment.  There have been over 300 drug-related deaths in New Hampshire this year.  Nashua alone has reported 144 deaths due to overdoses, as compared to 48 in 2014. This is a staggering and tragic fact. Unfortunately the state of New Hampshire is only able to accommodate about 8% of the estimated 100,000 residents seeking substance use disorder treatment each year. Keystone Hall, is highly regarded as a leader and innovator in creating MORE >
The Tooth Hurts!
POSTED ON May 14th BY dcollins
by Nick Perricone, Volunteer How do you like your pasta cooked? If you’re like me, the answer is always ‘al dente.’  Coming from the Italian translation for ‘to the tooth,’ it is the tender but firm level of cooking for mouth-watering pasta dishes to be served to friends or family.  But did you know that al dente is also the best way to prepare vegetables, beans, or rice to retain their fullest nutrition?   Diet and nutrition are, of course, an important part of general health. An essential ingredient of general health is oral health-maintaining the health of your mouth, including the jaw, gums, teeth, and tongue-and oral health in turn plays a significant role in overall health and well-being.  Knowing what foods and beverages contribute to oral health then becomes an important part of self-care, as are the use of fluoride, flossing, brushing, and visits MORE >
