Jesse Garcia is the Partnership for Successful Living’s April 2013 Volunteer of the Month!
POSTED ON April 22nd BY

CONGRATULATIONS JESSE, April’s Volunteer of the Month! Harbor Homes’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a huge program with a massive geographic reach – the entire State of NH.   Staff at Harbor Homes help low-income veteran families gain access to temporary financial assistance and supportive services. But first they have to find the veterans, then convince them to use the program, and finally work with them to use the services effectively. It can be tough. Working with veterans requires significant nuance and knowledge. Amazingly though, Jesse Garcia — an undergraduate intern — has proved that he has the nuance, skill and dedication to tackle all of the challenges the program presents. Jesse has worked with the SSVF program for several months, and has become an integral member of the team. He has innovative outreach ideas, and, as a veteran himself, he understands military culture so MORE >

Rivier University Students Volunteer at Harbor Homes
POSTED ON April 22nd BY

On Saturday, April 9th, nine Rivier University students came into Harbor Homes‘ Maple Arms Shelter to clean, sort and file. It was all part of the Rivier Freshman Day of Service, in which all 300-plus freshmen in the Rivier Community entered the Nashua Community to help local non-profits and the people they serve. The even was a sweeping success, particularly from the stand-point of Harbor Homes. At the shelter, the students removed abandoned items, sorted the food pantry and produced intake packets. All the staff at Maple Street was overwhelmed by the cheerful generosity of the students, who were bubbling with personality and enthusiasm. One of the student s was even able to use skills she had obtained at Market Basket to reassemble boxes for the food pantry. We earnestly thank all of the students from Rivier as well as the administration for setting this day MORE >

POSTED ON April 22nd BY PartnershipTeam

On behalf of the staff, volunteers and clients of Harbor Homes, we would like to send a resounding THANK YOU to everyone who donated, sponsored and attended the James W. Healy  6th Annual Veterans FIRST Auction!     The Auction was held at Alpine Grove on Saturday, April 13 and was extremely well attended, with more than 300 guests.  With hundreds of silent auction items, a wine pull, a Microsoft Surface raffle, and dozens of live auction packages, the Auction was filled with competitive excitement.     But not all of the auction was about the bidding. Carol Furlong, VP of Harbor Homes, and Kevin Fox, a U.S. Army Veteran currently in the Veterans FIRST Program, gave a mesmerizing and heartfelt presentation on the sorrows of veteran homelessness, and how Harbor Homes is trying to overcome those difficulties in New Hampshire. A moving film was presented, MORE >
