Radio Coverage for Harbor Homes’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program
POSTED ON January 22nd BY

Did you know that veterans make up over 23% of our homeless population? Harbor Homes, along with a grant from the federal government, is working to decrease veteran homelessness by providing housing and supportive services to low-income and homeless veteran households throughout NH. In October 2012, Harbor Homes became a recipient of a Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grant. In an on-air discussion with the radio hosts of “Self Empowerment NH” Lori Magoon and Jay Bernier, SSVF Program Manager, Cate Sementa,  discussed the opportunities for veterans in our community to benefit from SSVF connections. Since October, Cate has spearheaded this program with the help of Kevin Fox, an outreach worker to help connect veterans with these services. To learn more about the SSVF Program and the resources available to veterans, please listen to the radio show: To contact Cate, please email her at C.Sementa@harborhomes.org or MORE >

Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center Annual Dental Day of Caring
POSTED ON January 22nd BY PartnershipTeam

Last month, the Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center once again partnered with Dr. Weener of Landmark Dental Care to provide dental treatments to the Greater Nashua homeless community. Forty-five patients were served by Dr. Weener and his staff. The dental treatments provided included cleanings, x-rays,  extractions, root canals, crowns, and minor oral surgery. There was an estimated $20,000 of services provided this day from Landmark Dental Care. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Weener and staff, all forty-five homeless community members that came to the dental office that day left with big, bright smiles! One patient had chipped her front tooth in half while working years ago. The doctor was able to rebuild her tooth and when she left the dentist’s room she was beaming, smiling with confidence for the first time in years. This is the second Dental Day of Caring that has been MORE >

Sharon, a professional recruiter, responded to our volunteer posting of “HR Guru Wanted”  ready to bring recruiting to another level. She joined our HR department in the beginning of October. Since then, the Partnership received well over 300 resumes and successfully hired close to 20 new employees. As an HR volunteer, Sharon researched additional job posting sites, and ensures that we are reaching out to potential employees in as many ways as possible. There are many steps required to be successful in recruiting. Sharon understands the laws and regulations of posting jobs at certain locations to ensure we are compliant MORE >

POSTED ON January 17th BY PartnershipTeam

Recently, a case management position opened at the Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force and Kayla Fogg could not wait to apply. Kayla always had an interest in HIV/AIDS and in finding ways to help those who struggle with the diagnosis. Before applying for the position of case manager, Kayla was all ready working at the Task Force as a volunteer – a testament to her  dedication to this topic. Since Kayla was  experienced with the work of the Task Force, it was an easy decision to hire her. “Kayla brings great enthusiasm for this work and our population. We are thrilled to have her on our team. Welcome Kayla!” said Wendy Leblanc, Assistant Director of the Southern New Hampshire Task Force. We asked Kayla a few questions, so you could get to know her better.  Questions & Answers with Kayla Fogg: Medical Case Manager at MORE >
