Our Vice President of Keystone Hall , Annette Escalante, will be part of a panel discussion about prescription drug abuse in NH, to be held at Nashua High School South on Thursday, June 28, at 7 p.m. As we have expressed in earlier blogs, prescription drug abuse is a fast-rising drug trend in our community and nationally. Keystone Hall in Nashua, New Hampshire has seen a dramatic increase in the number of clients who report that their drug of choice is an opiate, typically in the form of a prescription drug.  Keystone Hall is also seeing a huge surge in youth who are also abusing prescription drugs. In recent news we have heard a lot about a new at-home HIV testing kit. The FDA was recently recommended to approve an over-the-counter screening test, made by OraSure Technologies. It is a very simple test, involving rubbing your gums with a pad and then placing the pad in a vial of fluid. In 20 minutes, you can find out your HIV status – in the privacy of your own home – similar to a home-pregnancy test. The Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force, greater Nashua, NH’s only AIDS Service Organization,  believes that testing is a very important part to reducing the spread of this complex disease. The agency currently offers FREE and confidential HIV testing and counseling to high-risk community members, using tests made by OraSure – the same company who makes the at-home test kits being considered by the FDA. While the at home kits MORE >

Drug Use in Today’s Classroom
POSTED ON June 7th BY PartnershipTeam

Scientific American posted five of the best infographics depicting the current trends around drug use nationwide. Last week we blogged about the fourth infographic that depicted the medical uses of abused drugs. This week’s installment is about the drug use in today’s classroom. With the visualization of this infrographic, it is easy to see that drug trends in schools are on the rise- in a major way. Studies conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse show that nearly half of 12th grade students tried drugs in the past, with about one-quarter actively using. Take a look, and leave a comment about what you think we can do, both as a nation and locally, to address this serious issue. If you or a loved one has a drug or alcohol problem , Keystone Hall can help. For more information or to schedule a confidential and free MORE >
